The van goes through Mission Bay park, past Belmont park in Pacific Beach and stops at the boardwalk behind the Catamaran Hotel on Mission Bay. We walk along the boardwalk, past the marina through the Catamaran Hotel and cross the street to the Boardwalk on the Ocean. It's a 45 minute stop to lounge along the boardwalk exploring the shops, restaurants and bars and sip a cool beverage while watching the people go by.

Time to hit the freeway and get up to our northernmost beach ahead of the traffic, Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Volleyball, snacks, playground they have it all.

Next, you'll have the opportunity to nosh on a tasty lunch at one of the many restaurants in Encinitas. (not included in the price). Off to the meditation gardens at Swamis Temple. Then we descend the stairs down the cliff to the famous surf spot called Swamis.

After a brief stroll along the beach we get back in the Van past Cardiff state beach and the famous Kook statue on our way to Solana Beach. We cruise through the design district of Cedros and Fletcher Park cove down the coast to the Del Mar racetrack and the Victorian city of Del Mar. 20 minute stroll through the city and back on the bus through the magnificent coastline of Carmel Valley and up the cliffs into Torrey Pines. A stop at the Glider port to watch the parasailers soar off the cliffs of Torrey Pines. Driving past the University of California at San Diego and the Salk Institute we arrive at the Sea Caves of La Jolla.

We saved the best for last with an hour and a half stop to explore the wonderful La Jolla Cove as well as the exquisite shops and restaurants of downtown La Jolla. We head back to your hotel through Bird Rock and Pacific Beach before getting on the freeway to get back to your hotel.

Up the hill to the first lighthouse in San Diego and the lighthouse museum. Steep drive down to the water and Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach. Past the bars and restaurants on Newport Ave into Mission Bay and Pacific Beach. Take a quiet stroll along the bay behind the Catamaran Hotel before crossing over to the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk on the ocean. Check out the old wooden Crystal Pier before heading to our furthermost northern beach town of Encinitas. A stop for lunch and then over to the beautiful tranquil gardens, Koi ponds and exquisite bluff views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A short ride over to one of the best surfing spots in North County called Swami's. We descend the long spiral stairs down to the tidepools on the beach. Back in the van to cruise along Highway 101 through Cardiff, San Elijo, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Carmel Valley and up the grade into Torrey Pines.

At our next stop we watch the Hang Gliders and Parasailors soar off the cliffs at Torrey Pines Glider Port. Winding our way down to La Jolla Shores to watch the kayaks launch on their journey to the sea caves. Entering La Jolla Cove we are on top of the sea caves and walk down to Seal Beach where everyone can watch the seals playing in there native habitat. Back up to Prospect Street through downtown to La Jolla Blvd and on our way back to the hotel through Bird Rock and Pacific Beach.

For a completely different feel, opt to head east to the rural countryside and the old gold mining town of Julian, (a Unesco Heritage Sight) located at the junction of 3 different mountain ranges. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and breathe in the country air. After lunch and famous home grown apple pie and ice cream the tour will start the 2400 foot descent down to the desert floor and arrive at Anza Borrego State Park visitor's center. The largest desert state park in the nation. Catch the setting sun on our return to downtown.

Stand on top of Font's Point, nicknamed California's Grand Canyon. Marvel at 40 foot high walls shoulder length apart as you squeeze through Slot Canyon. Enjoy the incredible 2400 foot descent from the historic gold mining town of Julian to the largest desert state park in the nation. Learn about the formation of the region as well as it's native plants and animals inside the visitor's center at Anza Borrego State Park. See the town of Borrego Springs before heading up the grade to start our 95 mile journey back through the mountains and onto highway 8 as we follow the setting sun back into San Diego.

Head north along the 15 freeway and east up the Poway grade through the mountains on our way to the old western town of Ramona. Our 1st stop is at Dudley's bakery in the 1 corner town of Santa Ysabel. Amazing breads and other fresh baked goods for your pallet.

Back on the winding mountain road to our lunch stop at Wynola. Take a look at the old gold mine across the street. 3 miles down the road we arrive in Julian. Lots of interesting shops and buildings to explore and some famous apple pie and cider for desert. A long but stunning drive winding around the sides of the mountain on our way down to the dessert floor and the town of Borrego Springs. Driving around Christmas Circle and the main shopping area till we arrive at the visitor's center at Anza Borrego State Park.

Inside Anza Borrego State Park are the descriptions of all the native plants and animals that are indigenous to the area as well as some history about the area going back several million years. Outside are trails with plaques telling you the names of the different plants. A stop for a cool drink at the lounge overlooking the Rams Hill golf course is a must before we begin our trip back. We climb back up the grade and chase the setting sun as we come through the mountains on highway 8 heading towards the ocean and downtown San Diego.
